Chamber of Mines statistics Factoid (Ghana)

Ghana NAMED single-operator bauxite + manganese production from the Chamber of Mines annual 'Mining Industry Statistics and Data' Factoid (Appendix A1, Major Minerals Production 1990-2023). Ghana's bauxite and manganese each have ONE national producer - Ghana Bauxite Company (bauxite 959,601 t in 2023, up 24% on 2022) and Ghana Manganese Company (manganese 3.0 Mt in 2023) - so the national figure IS the operator figure (structural single-operator attribution, the Brazil-CBMM / Bolivia-YLB pattern). 2011-2023 series per commodity. Gold + diamond are multi-operator and NOT attributed here (the per-company gold table is a JS-gated Minerals Commission web endpoint - a follow-on lane)

Gold is Ghana's #1 mineral (~4M oz/yr). Emits FULL-YEAR data only: 2021 = 12 named large-scale producers, ~84 t / 2.71M oz (+ small-scale = the report's stated 2.818M oz total). The report's 2022 table is a Jan-Sep partial-year snapshot and is DROPPED (it would understate ~20-25% and not reconcile). Annual bulletins carry full-year production by société; the freshest is auto-adopted - FY2025 (Bulletin n30) = 19 named majors / 182.8 Mt (SMB 71.5 Mt, CHALCO 22.1, CBG 17.4, AGB2A 17.0, CDM Chine 9.4...), a ~48% jump on FY2023's 123 Mt. Quarterly bulletins carry per-société export (Total Exportation reconciles to the bulletin's stated quarter total). ICSG Directory of Copper Mines, Smelters and Refineries
Licensed
International Copper Study Groupcopper

Full ~1,300-facility copper census: per-facility capacity, SX-EW detail, operating/developing/feasibility stage, 5-year forecast, ownership.

Would fill: Exhaustive copper midstream census (beyond the free Factbook top-20).

Price: ~EUR 550-850/yr (member / non-member); twice-yearly.

The free World Copper Factbook already yields the top-20 mines/smelters/refineries (capacity + ownership) via the icsg_copper_factbook seed - enough for the midstream-concentration HHI. Buy the Directory for the full census.

INSG World Directory of Nickel Production Facilities
Licensed
International Nickel Study Groupnickel

Global nickel mine/smelter/refinery facility census: capacity by process (NPI, ferronickel, matte, refinery), status, operator.

Would fill: Facility-level nickel midstream capacity - no free factbook equivalent.

Price: EUR 2,000 member country / EUR 3,000 non-member, per edition. Verified 2026-07-30 against INSG's own published order form (insg.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/publist_ORDER-FORM.pdf); the figure carried here before was ~EUR 500-700, understating it 4-6x.

No free INSG factbook equivalent to ICSG's. Until procured, nickel midstream relies on USGS MYB + IEA CMO country-level capacity already in strata.

INSG World Nickel Statistics Monthly Bulletin
Licensed
International Nickel Study Groupnickel

Monthly world nickel supply/demand balance, primary production, first-use consumption and stocks - the timely statistical series behind the annual factbook.

Would fill: Monthly nickel supply-demand balance + first-use series (factbook is annual).

Price: World Nickel Statistics (Monthly Bulletins + Yearbook): EUR 2,000 member country / EUR 3,000 non-member per year. Single issue EUR 500 / EUR 1,000. The all-inclusive package (Statistics + Directory) is EUR 3,000 / EUR 5,000, which is cheaper than buying both separately. Verified 2026-07-30 against INSG's published order form.

The free insg_factbook_2024 (annual) + INSG press releases already give the headline production + first-use split; buy the Bulletin for the monthly balance.

Benchmark Mineral Intelligencelithium / battery materials

Lithium-conversion midstream capacity, battery project pipeline, pricing.

Would fill: Li-chemical midstream + battery-supply-chain capacity (specialist add-on).

Price: Subscription (per-module).

Specialist add-on for the lithium/battery axis; IEA CMO covers Li chemicals at country level for free today.

CBP AMS Daily Vessel Manifest Extract (US import bills of lading)
Licensed
U.S. Customs and Border Protectionall commodities (US ocean imports)

Daily shipment-level bill-of-lading records for all US ocean imports: shipper, consignee, notify party, cargo description, weight, container + BoL numbers, ports (master AND house bills; 19 CFR 103.31(e)).

Would fill: Company-to-company trade edges for the US leg - BACI is country-level annual; this is the shipment-level supplier->consignee layer.

Price: Quote-only ('government's production cost') via CBP NFC Collections, Indianapolis, (317) 614-4514; SFTP delivery + reimbsvcs@cbp.dhs.gov pending final rule 91 FR 6074.

THE authentic root every aggregator resells - and, unlike the rest of this registry, public-record and redistribution-clean once bought. Plan: backfill specific days from 2024-01-01 (~920 files; precedent: CBP fulfilled ImportYeti's ~5-year backfill) + ongoing daily subscription. Caveats: vessel-only (air/rail/truck per-se exempt), no HS codes (description parsing), ~20-35% shipper / ~8-35% consignee names blanked by 103.31(d) confidentiality.

S&P Global Panjiva
Licensed
S&P Global Market Intelligenceall commodities (global shipment data)

~2B shipment records across ~20 countries with entity resolution and company-to-company relationship graphs; US imports since ~2007. The academic reference product (Fed FEDS 2021-066; WRDS/Redivis distribution).

Would fill: Resolved company-level trade edges + non-US customs transaction coverage.

Price: Enterprise licence (negotiated; UI, Capital IQ Pro, or Xpressfeed bulk).

S&P property - doubly off-limits to vendor (same family as sp_global_metals_mining); cite-only. Academic WRDS/Redivis channels are contractually academic-research-only and cannot seed strata.

Descartes Datamyne
Licensed
Descartes Systems Groupall commodities (US BoL + trade statistics)

US import BoL archive back to ~2004 with the fastest commercial refresh (records loaded within 24h of receipt from CBP); unlimited internal searches/downloads on subscription.

Would fill: Deep US BoL history + daily timeliness without building an in-house archive.

Price: Quote-only; a leaked rate card suggests ~USD 7-20k/yr for US import access (order-of-magnitude only).

Best value for INTERNAL full-history analysis if procured; no redistribution - derived rows cannot enter strata's published data.

Trademo bulk US bill-of-lading files
Licensed
Trademoall commodities (US imports, bulk files)

Raw + enriched US import BoL archive Jan 2014-present (135M+ records, 100+ AMS-derived fields) delivered as files via S3/SFTP/AWS Data Exchange - the only vendor found openly selling the archive as files.

Would fill: A files-delivered 2014+ US BoL archive without per-row export caps.

Price: 'Starts at USD 20,000' per purchase (Datarade listing; scope ambiguous).

The market price anchor for a files-delivered history; licence still prohibits redistribution - internal analysis only.

ImportGenius
Licensed
ImportGeniusall commodities (US imports/exports)

Self-serve US import BoL search back to 2006 (exports from 2014); the only major vendor with a public price sheet.

Would fill: Cheap self-serve lookup / spot verification of shipment records.

Price: USD 229/mo (Essentials, last 12 months) / 449/mo (Pro, 2006+) / 1,999+/mo (Enterprise, global + API); Pro caps downloads at 1,000 rows/mo.

Download caps make it useless for bulk; suited to manual spot-checks. Cite-only, no redistribution.

ImportInfo
Licensed
ImportInfoall commodities (US imports)

US import BoL archive back to Oct 2012 (~240M records) with meaningful export quotas: Professional tier allows 300k exported records/month (CSV/Excel/JSON).

Would fill: The cheapest commodity-SLICE path: a minerals-filtered 2024+ pull fits inside the monthly export cap for a few hundred dollars total.

Price: USD 59.99 / 99.99 / 149.99 per month (12mo / 24mo / full-history tiers).

The cheap gap-analysis probe while the CBP direct channel is procured; internal-use only - extracted rows never enter strata's published data.

Sayari Graph
Licensed
Sayari Labsall commodities (trade + ownership graph)

Entity-resolution-first knowledge graph fusing customs transactions (65+ countries) with corporate ownership - the reference for UFLPA/enforcement-style supply-chain tracing.

Would fill: Trade edges pre-joined to beneficial-ownership chains (strata's C5 axis).

Price: Enterprise licence (negotiated).

Complements rather than replaces raw BoL: strongest where ownership linkage matters more than shipment completeness. Cite-only.

Veritrade
Licensed
Veritradeall commodities (Latin America customs transactions)

Named shipment-level customs records for 50+ countries with Latin America depth (Peru, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador...) including history beyond the free official windows.

Would fill: LatAm exporter-level history beyond Peru SUNAT's rolling ~2-month free window.

Price: Annual plans, unpublished (USD/EUR).

Prefer the official channels first: Peru SUNAT weekly files are free (archive them from now) and SUNAT sells history via the official TUPA request - buying Peru history from a reseller both costs more and weakens provenance.

Certidao Especifica da Linha do Tempo do QSA (Brazilian Junta Comercial)
Licensed
State Juntas Comerciais (JUCESP, JUCEMG and 25 others), under DREIall - Brazilian mineral-title holders

For one company: full qualification of every partner, the capital social, THE PARTICIPATION PERCENTAGE OF EACH PARTNER, and every partner's dated entry and exit across the whole life of the company. Mandated by IN DREI 88/2022 art. 95 par. 4 I, which also states these certificates carry no limit on the information returned.

Would fill: Ownership STAKES for privately held Brazilian companies. strata's free stack yields control edges in quantity and stake percentages almost never: every one of the 854 ownership edges touching the flagship 50 has a null stake_percent.

Price: Per document, per company, set by each state's published tariff. Sao Paulo: R$ 91,06 (JUCESP item 16.4.2, Portaria 146 de 19/12/2025, 2,37 UFESP at UFESP 2026 = R$ 38,42). Minas Gerais: R$ 24,00 for a limitada, R$ 37,00 for a sociedade por acoes (JUCEMG item 11.2.2). Both extracted from the signed primary tariff documents on 2026-07-30. For the 29 private limitadas of strata's flagship roster that is between R$ 696 and R$ 2.641 in total - roughly USD 130 to USD 480.

RUN THE FREE PATH FIRST. JUCESP item 16.4.3 - Certidao Especifica pre-formatada, up to three filings, online - is marked Isento, and it is the free variant of the same certificate family. If it exposes the QSA modality the purchase is unnecessary. SCOPE. The instrument itself excludes sociedades por acoes from the percentage requirement, so it reaches limitadas only; for the listed companies use CVM's reference form, which is free. FREE FALLBACK ALREADY MEASURED. Receita Federal's CNPJ Socios file gives the partner's identity and CNPJ but has no percentage field at all - verified against the published layout, not inferred. SHAPE. There is no API and no bulk channel: 27 state systems, one document at a time. This belongs in a curated seed, not a fetcher, and the effort is the real cost rather than the money.

Physical assets - mines, smelters, refineries - tagged to a commodity by the FF Mineral Bridge. A site tagged for two commodities is counted under both, so these are facility tags, not distinct facilities. The first-party tier is curated registry matches; NAICS candidates are broad-net crosswalk hits and dominate the raw count. Browse the operators themselves under Explore › Companies.

Counts overlap when a facility is matched across registries - an MRDS-identified mine also tagged by MSHA appears in both. Per-facility detail lives on each commodity’s Facilities tab and on each company’s.

Methodology

How sources fuse into canonical facilities

1

Authority + role

Each source declares an authority tier and a reconcile role. Primary-for sources win their anchor:

GLEIF legal entities → leiSEC EDGAR subsidiaries (CorpWatch) → cik
2

Spatial + name match

Facilities bucket into a 0.05° (~5 km) grid; cross-source pairs are scored on four weighted components (mirrors synthesis config):

Distance

0.4

Name (JW)

0.4

Region

0.1

Commodity

0.1

3

Fuse

Score thresholds decide the tier; HIGH edges union-find into one canonical facility with a fresh ULID:

≥ 0.72 HIGH · auto-merge → canonical ULID0.65-0.72 MEDIUM · same_complex_as edge< 0.65 LOW · pass-through (SINGLE)
4

Entity alias

Operators reconcile separately: anchor keys (LEI / CIK / bq_id / regno) with umbrella + sentinel guards, then a canonical-entity crosswalk picks the best-anchored rep (LEI > CIK > bq_id > regno).

What we are working on

Gaps we have measured and intend to close, with the number that makes each one real. Listed here so a reader can tell what has not been reached yet from what no register publishes - the same distinction the coverage ledger draws on every company page.

  1. 1

Ownership percentages for privately held Brazilian companies

    25,145 companies eligible; 481 hold 50+ titles

Brazil's commercial registries issue a certificate that states each partner's share and the dated history of every entry and exit. It is the only instrument that carries the percentage: the federal CNPJ register names the partners but has no percentage field. Sequenced by footprint rather than by country, since ordering runs one document at a time across 27 state registries.

blocked on Sociedades anonimas are excluded by the instrument itself - for those the route is the CVM reference form.

  2. 2

Output, as distinct from sales, for Brazilian operators

sales now held for 18,947 companies; output for none

Royalty returns now ship on company pages: ANM charges CFEM on minerals sold and publishes every payment, so what a company was assessed on is on its page with the payer and the year it covers. What that is not is production. Sold tonnage misses stockpiled output and overstates a drawdown, and no Brazilian register carries output per company - the regulator's own yearbook reports it by substance and state, with no company column.

blocked on There is no public source to ingest. Closing this means company-reported figures from CVM annual filings, one issuer at a time, and it reaches only listed companies.

  3. 3

Environmental enforcement beyond the US and Brazil

IBAMA now held: 13,881 notices + 1,636 embargoes across 4,107 mining companies

Federal environmental enforcement now covers two jurisdictions: EPA status for US sites, and IBAMA's infraction notices and embargoes for Brazilian companies, joined on the registration number the regulator itself cites. What remains is everywhere else - and Brazil's state-level agencies, which publish separately from the federal register and are not yet ingested.

  4. 4

    Parent-company rollup

Brazil: 20,435 register-keyed edges ingested; rest of world still keyless

A company's footprint should include what its subsidiaries operate. For Brazil the federal company register now supplies ownership edges keyed on the CNPJ at both ends - no name matching - covering quota companies and consortia; they are ingested and will surface on company pages with the next resolution pass. Sociedades anonimas stay out of that instrument's reach by construction: their rosters list administrators, not shareholders.

blocked on Outside Brazil no shared key exists between corporate filings and cadastre-named operators. Name matching is not viable - it misses the true subsidiary and catches a separately listed company with a similar name.

Some gaps are not ours to close. A privately held company with no listing obligation files no accounts, states no reserves and names no customers anywhere - for those the coverage ledger reads "not published", and no amount of ingestion will change it. This list deliberately excludes them.

Federated from primary sources. Every fact carries its provenance.
